Light Ahead is a piece that embodies the shifting emotions felt by many Georgians at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonically the piece is inspired by elements of R&B and gospel music that have been cultivated in Atlanta. The drums for the first section imitate a heavy, skipping heartbeat while the voices summon feelings of anxiety by mimicking the staggered breathing of someone experiencing crippling anxiety. The first half embodies the repetitive nature of quarantine and the hopelessness that many felt during this time while the second half evokes feelings of relief from returning to normalcy and working towards healing from the hardships of the pandemic.
